Phase I (to be completed January
2007)
We are excited to provide the
following amenities to our guests for the 2007 season.
1)
New
parking lot on the north east corner which will provide an additional 9 parking
spaces. Each Far View room will
have it’s own dedicated parking space with name
attachment. Parking lot will be
paved with paver stones and concrete curb edging. Parking lot entrance will be on Lubbock Street and
exit will be off Park Street. Parking lot will be landscaped with a
tropical look using many native drought and heat tolerant plants.
2)
A
6 foot high brick wall with 2 foot wide spaced columns will edge the property
from the Carriage House on Church
Street, along the total length of Lubbock Street and
end at the termination of the new parking lot on Park Street. Brick will match the existing house
brick as close as possible. (Future
phases will extend the brick wall around the entire perimeter of the estate)
3)
The
existing driveway consists of 80 years of different concrete pouring. The driveway has many cracks and is in
need of major repairs. The decision
was made to ‘top’ all the driveway and any new sidewalks and patios
with the same pavers as the new parking lot. A total of 15,000 sq ft will be
used on this project. All pavers will be edged with concrete curbing, this change will give the entire
area a softer and more elegant look.
The color of the pavers are multiple shades of
red, black and grey.
4)
Storage
Shed / Sitting Area will be located adjacent to the parking lot and will face
the main house. The style of the
building will mimic the Far View architecture with arches and carriage style
doors. The sitting area will
provide a comfortable place for guests to sit and relax undercover. Overhead will be fans to help cool off
during hot days, a large
screen TV will adorn one wall for those who wish to watch ‘the
game’ or track their favorite golf tournament. The floor will be paved in Saltillo tile.
5)
The
existing storage shed will be removed and the concrete floor will be redone in Saltillo tile. This area will be covered by a 14 X 14 green
canvas tent. 2 large 2 person
hammocks will occupy this space along with a cement fireplace and additional
seating. This area borders on a
large grove of bamboo and we will expand on this theme by adding exotic
plantings. The perfect spot to have
a nap, read
a book, or just swing in the
breeze.
6)
A
new laundry room is being constructed just east of the Carriage House. This building will also consist of a
public ADA
approved washroom. On the north
side of the laundry,
a roofed area, with
arches, saltillo
tile, cable TV will house a seven
person spa. ‘THE’ place
to head after a long day of antique shopping in the Brenham area.
7)
For
those who have visited Far View before, you will know of the stone wall
which was original to the house 80 + years ago. To highlite this wall, we will be
adding a natural gas firepit just
in front of it and under the 60 ft high pine trees. This area will surely bring friends and strangers together on
cool evenings to tell stories and share past adventures.
8)
An
outdoor kitchen area is being constructed under the large oak and pecan trees
next to the swimming pool. This
structure will be built ‘off the ground’ to allow proper air
circulation of the tree roots and prevent any severe damage. The kitchen will be built of
brick, have a saltillo floor, the same arches as the main house
will surround the structure on 3 sides and a solid wall facing Church
Street. A wet bar will butt up
against the pool area and provide seating for 4 or 5. A 4 foot roof overhang will protect those
guests from sudden summer showers. Inside the kitchen area, 2 wall ovens, a counter top gas stove, a BBQ , small fridge, hand washing sink will all help make
breakfast preparation a new experience for the owners and guests alike. A buffet bar will be situated in the
middle of the building,
consisting of a granite top this area will be the center of many
future family gatherings. An
under counter ice machine will keep drinks refreshingly cool. Speaking of cool, 5 overhead circulating fans and an
inroof air conditioner will keep this area substantially cooler than poolside. For those cooler winter months, a gas
fireplace will warm you as you sit
in the comfortable seating area.
Sports fans will enjoy the large flat screen TV and surround
sound….GO TEXANS!!
A&M!!! and of course…..LONGHORNS!! (for our
Canadian friends…..go STARS!)
The innkeepers, Linda and Steve hope that you
will enjoy these new additions to Far View and with your patronage, to make The Beautiful Far View
Estate, the best little bed and
breakfast in Texas.
